Realme launched its new Android 10-based Realme UI, built on ColorOS 7, featuring some impressive features. The update is currently rolling out on Realme XT and Realme 3 Pro, with plans for other models soon. Whether you’ve received the update or are awaiting it, here are 12 cool Realme UI features to explore:
12 Useful Realme UI Features
1. Dark Mode Unveiled
While Realme phones initially introduced Dark Mode with ColorOS 6.1, it was previously in beta and accessible through Realme Labs. With Realme UI, the feature has graduated from beta and is now easily accessible in the Display settings.
Additionally, there are extra options available. You can now enable Dark Mode to automatically adjust from sunset to sunrise. Alternatively, you have the option to schedule Dark Mode activation during specific time intervals.
Furthermore, there’s an option to enable Dark Mode for third-party apps, including WhatsApp.
2. Enhanced Screenshot Features
Realme UI introduces several enhancements to screenshot functionality. The three-finger gesture for capturing screenshots now supports partial screen capture, allowing users to capture specific areas of the screen without the need for cropping.
To capture a screenshot, simply tap and hold three fingers on the screen. A selection box will appear; drag it over the desired area.
Realme UI introduces several additional screenshot features. You can disable screenshot sounds by navigating to “Sound & Vibration” in Settings. Additionally, after capturing a screenshot, you can adjust the floating window vertically to take a long screenshot or share it. This feature is both practical and enjoyable.
3. Recording Screens with Internal Audio
If you often record your phone’s screen to share content with friends (I typically record Bitmoji Stories to share the funny ones), or enjoy capturing PUBG Mobile or Call of Duty: Mobile gameplay, Realme UI allows screen recording with internal audio.
To activate this, simply long press on the Screen Recording tile in Quick Settings, and toggle “Record System Sound” to enable internal audio recording.
Now, there’s also a pause screen recording feature. No need to stop recording for a quick detour to check messages or take a call. Just pause and resume recording when ready. Easy.
4. Access One-handed Mode Quickly
While One Handed Mode has been available since ColorOS 6, accessing it hasn’t been straightforward. Previously, users had to drag the tile into the quick settings pane and tap to activate.
Now, you can activate one-handed mode with a simple gesture. Head to Convenience Tools in Settings, tap ‘Navigation Buttons’, and enable ‘Pull Down to Enter One-Handed Mode.’
Simply swipe down on the navigation bar to enter one-handed mode.
5. Personal Information Protection
One of the hottest topics lately has been user privacy. Realme UI brings one of ColorOS 7’s best features to Realme smartphones — Personal Information Protection.
With this feature enabled, whenever a third-party app requests personal information like call logs, contacts, or messages, Realme UI will provide a blank page instead, ensuring the app functions without accessing your information.
This is useful for apps that ask for intrusive permissions for no discernible reason. So the next time Truecaller requests your contacts, utilize Realme’s Personal Information Protection to prevent your contact list from being sent to Truecaller’s servers.
Additionally, Realme UI introduces a File Protection feature to safeguard your files (such as images) from deletion by a malicious app. When enabled, your phone will alert you if an app attempts to delete images from your folders.
6. Swipe Down for Notifications
ColorOS annoys me by pulling up the Global Search when I swipe down on the home screen—an unused feature. Realme UI offers a solution: customize the swipe-down gesture to reveal the notification shade. This tweak simplifies access to notifications, eliminating the need to stretch to the status bar.
7. Double Tap to Lock
Realme UI introduces a convenient feature: double-tap to lock the screen directly from the home screen. I frequently used this on my previous Android device and believe it should be a standard option on all phones. It’s more convenient than relying on the power button or waiting for the screen to timeout.
With the feature enabled, you can double-tap on any empty space on your home screen to lock the phone. It’s easy and works instantly.
8. Realme Share Works with Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo Phones
Android users have long sought an AirDrop alternative, and Realme, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo recently announced an alliance to create such a feature. With Realme UI, the Realme Share feature now allows you to share files with other phones that support this system. This simplifies file sharing between smartphones.
9. Dual Mode Music Share
Ever found yourself sharing your earphones while listening to a song? Realme UI introduces Dual Mode Music Share, enabling simultaneous music playback on both Bluetooth and wired earphones.
Moreover, you can take calls on one pair of earphones while enjoying your music on the other. It’s a convenient feature worth utilizing. Currently in Realme Labs, I anticipate its official release.
10. Enhanced Camera UI
Realme UI brings improvements to the default camera app on Realme phones. The ultra-wide lens option in the Realme XT now resides in a more accessible location within the UI, moving from the top. Additionally, the 64MP (or 48MP in other phones) option is now in the camera options carousel, providing easier access compared to its previous placement within an overflow menu.
11. Focus Mode
Realme UI introduces a new Focus Mode to Realme smartphones, akin to OnePlus’ Zen Mode, designed to enhance concentration by minimizing distractions from your phone. Activating Focus Mode via the Quick Settings panel in Realme UI disables notifications and restricts app usage.
You have the flexibility to set the duration of Focus Mode and can opt for ambient sounds to aid in your concentration.
Unlike Zen Mode on OnePlus phones, Realme UI lets you exit Focus Mode at any time or pause it for a quick break. While I appreciate the flexibility, I’m concerned about its effectiveness as it makes bypassing Focus Mode quite easy.
12. Icon Customization
Realme UI introduces icon customization to Realme smartphones. You can choose from three styles: Default, Material Style, or Pebble style icons.
Alternatively, you can enable Custom icons in Realme UI to adjust background and icon sizes, as well as round the corners as desired.
Other Changes in Realme UI
While the 12 features I’ve mentioned above are major, Realme UI also includes numerous additional features. Here are some others you’ll find after updating to Realme UI based on Android 10:
Process Manager
In Additional Settings, there’s a new process manager displaying all running processes, including system ones. This simplifies ending or freezing unwanted processes.
Screen Lighting Effects
Realme UI introduces screen lighting effects, akin to Samsung’s One UI. With this feature, your phone’s screen edges illuminate upon receiving a call or notification, functioning like a notification LED but more noticeable.
Dynamic Wallpapers
For enthusiasts of live wallpapers, the latest feature in Realme UI is sure to capture your attention. The update introduces dynamic wallpapers that adjust based on the time of day. You can preview these wallpapers with a long press before setting them as your phone’s wallpaper.
Riding Mode for Bikers
Realme UI introduces a new Riding Mode tailored for bikers alongside the existing Smart Driving Mode. Activating this mode silences all alerts except for incoming calls, ensuring minimal distraction while riding. Incoming calls are displayed with a distinct UI, facilitating easy answering without diverting your attention from the road.
Improved Sidebar
Realme UI introduces visual changes to the Sidebar, enhancing its aesthetic appeal. Additionally, split-screen support is now extended to more apps, facilitating multitasking.
New Fingerprint Unlock Animations
Realme UI offers three new fingerprint scanner animations, accompanied by visual enhancements. Unlike Color OS 6, which only displays the animation name, Realme UI presents an image of each animation for easier selection.
