Getting a Mount in Diablo 4

Getting a Mount in Diablo 4

Diablo 4 introduces mounts to its ARPG for the first time, enhancing the journey through Sanctuary. However, obtaining mounts requires players to progress through certain acts. This article aims to simplify the process. Read on to learn how to get a mount and expedite your journey.

Steps to Obtain a Mount in Diablo 4

During the Diablo 4 beta, information about acquiring and using mounts was limited. With the game’s release, we now understand the requirements.

For the first time in the RPG series, Diablo features rideable mounts, a needed addition considering Diablo 4’s big open world compared to the biomes across acts in the first game. Mounts facilitate traversing this large world and enhance gameplay.

  • After finishing the three acts, players return to Kyovashad to talk with Donan. The quest marker directs us to Donan’s location.
  • Once at Kyovashad, talk with Donan and progress the questline. Before leaving, Donan ensures you have access to the stables and instructs you to speak with the Stable Master.
  • At Kyovashad, head to the horse icon on the map to reach the stable and speak with the Stable Master.
  • Following these steps grants access to in-game horses.

Customizing Mounts in Diablo 4

Upon accessing your mounts in Diablo 4, options become available.

The primary option is customizing mount appearances. With a battle pass and in-game shop, horse skins are prevalent. This echoes the era when Bethesda faced ridicule for introducing horse armor DLC in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, now paralleled by spending $8 on horse cosmetics in Diablo 4.

You can alter your horses’ appearance and equip them with armor at the stables. These items are purely cosmetic and confer no in-game advantages.

Another option is to mount trophies. This feature was confirmed during the beta, with players who successfully killed Ashava in the server slam receiving trophies for their horse. Currently, there are no methods to obtain trophies in the game, but it can be assumed that defeating various world bosses may yield one.

Diablo 4: Mount Skills

Mounts were confirmed during the first gameplay reveal, along with their integration into combat. The trailer showcased the Sorceror, Druid, and Barbarian dismounting mid-journey to engage enemies.

After the game launch, players can execute a unique attack while mounted, each class with distinct animations and attack patterns:

  • Bounding Slam (Barbarian): The Barbarian jumps from the horse, striking twice on the ground to damage all nearby enemies.
  • Volley (Rogue): The Rogue rains arrows in a straight line after dismounting, starting farther from the horse.
  • Bone Spikes (Necromancer): The Necromancer leaps from the horse, causing spikes to erupt from the ground.
  • Freezing Wake (Sorcerer): The sorcerer leaps from the horse as a wisp of ice, damaging enemies.
  • Pummel (Druid): Druid leaps from the horse as a Werebear and slams the ground, dealing AOE damage.

That covers mounts in Diablo 4. Updates on horse cosmetics and trophies will follow in upcoming seasons.
