Today, we present a comprehensive article encompassing all current knowledge about the Galaxy S22 series. This includes leaked design, camera specifications, release date, and more. If you’re considering a Samsung flagship next year, here’s everything you need to know about the Galaxy S22 series before its official launch.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Series: What We Know so Far (November 2021)

Samsung Galaxy S22: Release Date

Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 series on January 14 this year. Although a month late, you won’t wait long to get your hands on the new Galaxy S22 series if the leak is anything to go by. Another rumor by Jon Prosser suggests the Galaxy S22 series launch has likely been delayed to February to make way for the release of Galaxy S21 FE at CES 2022, which runs from January 5 to January 8.

Samsung Galaxy S22: Price (Rumored)

There haven’t been any reliable price leaks for the Galaxy S22 lineup just yet. However, we could expect the company to sell the S22 series at the same price as their predecessors.

The Galaxy S21 starts at $799, with the S21+ at $999 and S22 Ultra at $1199. The Korean giant reduced flagship smartphone prices this year, suggesting the Galaxy S22 series may debut at the same price, starting at $799.

Samsung Galaxy S22: Design and Display

According to a tweet from tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S22 may feature a 6.06-inch Full-HD+ flat AMOLED display (slightly smaller than the 6.2-inch panel on the S21). The Galaxy S22 Plus may offer a larger 6.5-inch Full-HD+ flat AMOLED display.

The top-end S22 Ultra may boast a larger 6.8-inch Quad-HD+ curved AMOLED display. All three devices are likely to offer 120Hz refresh rate support. Also, much like its predecessor, the Galaxy S22 series will include a top-centered punch-hole selfie camera.

The biggest design highlight in 2022 Samsung flagships is the built-in S Pen slot in the S22 Ultra model. Gone are the days when you needed an additional case to carry the S Pen. As seen in leaked hands-on images, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is essentially the spiritual successor of the Note lineup.

Aside from the note-like chunky design and the S Pen slot, another noticeable design upgrade in the S22 Ultra is the new rear camera array. Instead of the massive camera bump seen on the S21 Ultra, Samsung seems to be opting for a camera lens array reminiscent of the Galaxy A series or the LG Velvet.

Regarding the standard Galaxy S22 and the S22 Plus, there aren’t many changes in design compared to their Galaxy S21 predecessors earlier this year. They retain the same flat front display and the camera bump protruding from the metal chassis. Here’s a quick look at renders for the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus, courtesy of OnLeaks and 91Mobiles:

Ice Universe suggests on Weibo that Samsung plans to equip the standard Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus with a 50MP GN5 primary sensor boasting an f/1.55 aperture. This sensor might be complemented by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, marking an improvement over the Galaxy S21’s 3x hybrid zoom.

Conversely, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is rumored to sport a quad-camera setup on its rear. This setup would comprise a 108MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, a 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP periscope lens with 10x optical zoom.

Regarding camera features, rumors indicate Samsung is testing numerous new capabilities to differentiate itself from the iPhone 13 and Google Pixel 6 series. The Korean giant aims to utilize its upgraded 108MP camera sensor for a “super detailed” photo mode on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The upcoming flagships may also include support for 8K @ 60FPS recording, an improvement over the S21 series’ existing 8K @ 24FPS video recording.

Internal Specs of Samsung Galaxy S22

In a departure from the usual Samsung Galaxy flagship launches, there are indications that more regions, including India, may receive Snapdragon 898-powered Galaxy S22 models instead of the Exynos 2200 models. The upcoming Snapdragon flagship chipset, rumored to be based on the 4nm process node and featuring the ARM Cortex-X2 core, is the talk of the rumor mill.

During its investor day presentation, Qualcomm asserted that approximately 40% to 50% of the Galaxy S series volume in 2022 will feature Snapdragon chipsets. Nonetheless, Samsung won’t completely abandon Exynos 2200, intending to launch its flagships with this chip in select regions like Europe and Russia. The S22 and S22+ will come with up to 8GB LPDRR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, while the S22 Ultra will offer up to 16GB LPDRR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

As per a recent leak by Ice Universe on Twitter, Exynos 2200 is rumored to include a Cortex-X2 core clocked at 2.9GHz, along with 3 cores (likely Cortex-A710) at 2.8GHz, and 4 cores (potentially Cortex-A510) at 2.2GHz. This robust CPU is expected to feature the long-rumored AMD RDNA 2 GPU.

The AMD GPU on the Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC is rumored to be clocked at 1250MHz and support ray tracing. Conversely, the Snapdragon 898 may feature a Cortex-X2 core running at 3 GHz, along with 3 Cortex-A710 cores at 2.5GHz, and 4 Cortex-A510 cores at 1.79GHz. None of these details are official, so we suggest you take them with a pinch of salt. Nonetheless, Qualcomm will unveil its next-gen flagship Snapdragon chipset on November 30.

Samsung Galaxy S22: Battery

Lastly, let’s discuss the battery and charging capabilities of the upcoming Galaxy S22 series. The Galaxy S22 is expected to sport a 3,700mAh battery. In contrast, recent reports indicate that the Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Ultra will feature 4,500mAh and 5,000mAh batteries, respectively.

Regarding charging speeds, the S22 Ultra variant is expected to offer 45W fast charging, charging the device from 0 to 70% in 35 minutes, an improvement over Galaxy S21’s 25W fast charging. However, recent listings for the Galaxy S22 lineup on China’s 3C technology regulator website indicate it will stick to the trusted 25W fast-charging tech.

If this is true, the 25W charging speeds will be disappointing in 2022, as Samsung’s Chinese competitors will have surpassed 100W speeds on their flagships.
