Dreaming of an all-screen phone sans front camera, speaker cut-out, and notch? Your wait ends soon.
Oppo unveils its bezel-less flagship tomorrow, June 19, in Paris. Thanks to sources in China, we have the complete specs sheet for the Oppo Find X (details on the name forthcoming).
Note that the name may not be final. The document we received refers to the phone as N5, likely an internal codename. Oppo’s choice of name is intriguing, considering the innovative Oppo N1 with its rotating camera. However, the name pales in comparison to the impressive specs sheet. Here’s what we expect at tomorrow’s launch:
Design And Display
Leaked renders and official posters reveal Oppo’s pursuit of a bezel-free Vivo Nex-like appearance, a detail confirmed by our document.
Oppo embraces a double-sided glass design, devoid of any visible holes or cutouts. The integration of proximity and ambient light beneath and around the display allows it to command the front, while the back remains pure glass.
The phone’s front and back slide to unveil the cameras, as showcased in a recent teaser video leak, revealing the device in its entirety.
Display
Without the notch, the Oppo Find X or N5 will feature a 6.42-inch AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and rounded corners. The device will have minimal side and top bezels, as seen in the marketing material so far, but the bottom chin is still present. While Oppo teased that the Find X would have a whopping 93.8% screen-to-body ratio, our document indicates it will be slightly lower at 92.3% – still higher than most bezel-less phones.
Internals
As expected from any flagship phone in 2018, Oppo Find X will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 mobile platform, paired with 8GB of RAM. It offers two high internal storage configurations – 256GB and 512GB. The phone features a decently sized 3,730 mAh battery, chargeable within 30 minutes using the VOOC compatible USB-C charger.
Cameras
Now, onto one of the most interesting parts of the Oppo Find X. It sports a dual rear-camera setup, comprising a primary 16MP Sony IMX 519 sensor (f/2.0 aperture) and a secondary 20MP IMX 376k sensor (f/2.2 aperture).
This setup should enable you to capture satisfying portrait shots. The leaked document suggests the camera will feature AI-powered photo modes, special lighting modes, and filters. AI-powered photo modes will also be available for the front camera.
The sliding front camera is expected to be a single 25MP IMX 576 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.
There’s plenty of room for the front camera, so Oppo has packed in hardware. Find X will also feature “3D structured light technology” to enable Face Unlock as secure as the iPhone X. Oppo may also introduce its own version of Animojis.
Availability
Expect the phone unveiling tomorrow. Oppo brings the Find X to the Indian market in July, its priciest smartphone yet. Sources indicate a price tag around Rs 50,000, rivaling the Samsung Galaxy S9 series, Google Pixel 2 range, Huawei P20 Pro, and iPhone 8 series.
