Apple’s design choice to incorporate a notch for the front-facing camera and sensors in its iPhone X has influenced many Android manufacturers. Despite some innovative solutions emerging, the notch has become ubiquitous in the Android smartphone landscape. While convenient for housing essential components, it presents challenges, notably in full-screen apps and games like PUBG Mobile. If you’re experiencing issues with PUBG Mobile on your notched smartphone, here’s how to optimize your gaming experience:
Optimizing PUBG Mobile for Notched Phones
- To optimize PUBG Mobile for notched displays, open the settings menu by tapping the cog in the bottom right corner of the game lobby.
- Next, access the ‘Graphics’ tab and scroll to find the ‘Non-Standard Screens’ option. Note that this setting may not be available on all smartphones. For instance, when checked on the OnePlus 6, the game doesn’t display the option and shifts the entire game to the right, leaving a black bar. However, on other phones like the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, the feature is visible, indicating it may soon arrive on your device.
- The option defaults to ‘Normal’. Depending on your device, you can choose either ‘Rounded Corners’ or ‘Notched’. After selecting, click the yellow ‘OK’ button in the bottom right corner.
- A pop-up will appear, indicating ‘New settings applied. Reduce frame rate if fluctuating’. Tap ‘OK’ and restart the game for changes to take effect.
- After restart, you’ll notice UI elements shifted slightly inward to prevent notch interference with buttons (refer to attached screenshot). This adjustment affects both left and right UI elements.
Congratulations! PUBG Mobile is now optimized for your notched display. Enjoy the game without the notch interference. The ‘Rounded Corners’ setting prevents your display’s rounded corners from cutting into UI elements. Check out our article on PUBG Mobile tips and tricks for more.
