Minecraft 1.20 Snapshot 22W46A: Manual Mob Sounds, New Commands, and More

With all the announced features from Minecraft Live 2022 now integrated in previous snapshots, developers have shifted focus to new components. The latest Minecraft 1.20 snapshot, 22W46A, introduces manual mob sounds, a long-awaited command, and exciting updates. Here’s what you need to know.

Mob Heads: Beyond Decoration

By now, it’s common knowledge that killing mobs with a charged creeper results in them dropping a mob head. This head resembles the deceased mob’s and players can wear it as a mask. However, with Minecraft 1.20 snapshot 22W46A, you can also place these mob heads on Noteblocks to play corresponding mob ambient sounds. These sounds mirror the natural noises produced by the respective mobs. For instance, a creeper mob head produces the sound of an exploding creeper.

This mechanic offers endless prank possibilities and potentially unique doorbells. However, the player head lacks functionality and sound. Nonetheless, this snapshot broadened the mob head selection in Minecraft by introducing a Piglin head. When worn by moving players or activated by Redstone components, this new mob head animates by flapping its ears.

Secret Doors with Bookshelves are Now Possible

The chiseled bookshelves, beloved since their announcement, now offer enhanced utility. Prior to Minecraft 1.20 snapshot 22W46A, they adhered to a strict stack order, necessitating that the first book placed be the last removed, and vice versa. Now, you can select any book from the chiseled bookshelf directly. Consequently, any book can occupy any position. Notably, the color of the book remains unaffected by its type.

Not all spots on the chiseled bookshelf are equal. Placing a book on the top-left corner gives a weak Redstone signal, while the bottom right corner triggers the strongest signal. Spots in between progressively give stronger signals moving left to right and top to bottom.

With the right Redstone machine, book placement can work like a simple trigger, allowing you to create secret bookshelf doors. A Minecraft 1.20 tutorial for this is on the way, so stay tuned to be among the first to hear about it.

Change Biomes with Command

Since Minecraft’s inception, players have aspired to create bases encompassing all biomes. Despite the challenges posed by biome diversity, this dream has remained elusive. However, a breakthrough has emerged. In Minecraft 1.20 snapshot 22W46A, altering biomes is now achievable.

Through the “/fillbiome” command, players can modify biomes within designated regions. Our tests indicate that this command facilitates the transfer of biomes across dimensions without impacting dimensional characteristics. Nonetheless, the prospect of introducing water to the Nether remains unattainable.

Additional Changes in Minecraft 1.20

  • Top textures of Block of Bamboo now differ from Block of Stripped Bamboo.
  • Endermen, Skeletons, and Wither Skeletons now spawn only in Nether dimension at light levels below 9, down from 11 near Nether portals.
  • New telemetry events allow Minecraft to track session duration and other data, with minimal data collection enabled by default.
