Destiny 2 Updates: Masterwork Armor, Mod Rework, and More

Destiny 2 succeeded the original Destiny in 2014 and swiftly garnered a global fanbase. It earned numerous nominations at The Game Awards 2017 and the PlayStation Game of the Year 2017 Awards. Presently, the game boasts over 4 million players, with developers consistently delivering updates to sustain player engagement and satisfaction.

As reported by Gamespot, Destiny 2’s game director Christopher Barrett has outlined the game’s future updates in a complete roadmap reveal. The first new update is set for January 30 and will expand the Masterwork system to include armor for the first time. This armor aims to enhance damage reduction and Super abilities. It can also be upgraded using Cores and Shards linked to Masterworks.

Bungie has updates planned for Destiny 2 in January, February, and a major update scheduled for Spring 2018.

This update will feature mods with Raid-specific perks. The team is adjusting rewards to ensure a Raid item drops from each major encounter. New perks will drop from the final encounters in the Leviathan and Eater of Worlds raids.

Next, the team plans an update in February to add scoring and high score tracking to Nightfall Strikes. Version 2.0 for mods will be introduced, described by Bungie as a “full rework” of how mods work for armor and weapons. The team will also add the ability to see other fireteam members on the destination map.

The dev team plans a major update in Spring 2018, featuring a new paid expansion post-Curse of Osiris. While parts of this expansion are for premium players, everyone will receive updates elsewhere. Bungie is developing a new ranking system starting Season 3, with Crucible ranks split into Valor and Glory.

Players can host private matches, select maps and modes, and access a 6v6 playlist, “Mayhem event”, and various behind-the-scenes improvements for an enhanced experience.

Finally, Bungie announced they’re working on another update in Fall 2018, or possibly sooner, promising “a lot more” in updates and changes. Though specifics weren’t disclosed, the outlined features include Additional Crucible Playlists, Enhanced Clan Rewards, Trials of the Nine improvements, and more.

Clearly, Bungie’s development team has diligently polished Destiny 2’s overall experience. We’ve highlighted upcoming updates, but for a comprehensive list, refer to the official blog post. With a substantial roadmap ahead and numerous fan-requested features incoming, Bungie seems poised to solidify Destiny 2 as a multiplayer mainstay akin to Counter-Strike and DOTA.
