Huawei launched the Nova 3i (Rs. 20,990), featuring their latest Kirin 710 chipset. The company claims this chipset delivers excellent performance and battery life. I tested it myself and here’s my experience.
Performance Benchmarks
While I don’t base my device purchases solely on benchmarks, I recognize their significance to some. Therefore, I initiated this review by subjecting the device to stress tests using 3DMark, Geekbench, and Antutu.
The scores indicate that while the device doesn’t compete with flagship offerings, it still holds its ground. The Nova 3i scored 137855 in AnTuTu, 1592 in single-core and 5575 in multi-core tests on Geekbench 4. Additionally, in the 3DMark test, it achieved a score of 954 in the OpenGL ES 3.1 Test, demonstrating satisfactory performance.
Comparatively, the Honor Play scored 206206 in Antutu Benchmark, while the Mi A2 managed 141257. Clearly, the Nova 3i falls short of the Honor Play and slightly trails the Mi A2. But, benchmark scores aside, how does it perform in real-world scenarios?
Gaming Performance of Huawei Nova 3i
Synthetic benchmarks tell part of the story, but I prefer real-time testing to gauge consumer experience. To evaluate the Nova 3i’s performance, we extensively played graphics-intensive games like PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends. The Nova 3i handled these games at medium/high settings effortlessly, without any noticeable stutters or lags.
On PUBG Mobile, the game rendered at Medium settings by default. I could push it to High framerates while maintaining graphical fidelity at Medium, experiencing no issues. However, out of curiosity, I tried High graphics settings, which caused the game to cripple.
Next, I launched Asphalt 9: Legends on the device. Asphalt 9, though visually appealing, isn’t as graphics-intensive as PUBG Mobile. Consequently, the Nova 3i ran the game smoothly at max graphical settings. It loaded quickly, and I played several races, executing stunts, takedowns, and shockwaves without any device stuttering.
Huawei Nova 3i Gaming Review: Kirin 710 Performs Well
While the Nova 3i isn’t a performance beast like the Honor Play, it’s not meant to be. The Kirin 710 strikes a perfect balance between performance and battery life, and Huawei is spot on with that statement. The device delivers decent performance, better than most counterparts at this price point, which is a plus. However, if you’re seeking top-notch gaming performance, consider the Honor Play, as the Nova 3i may not meet your expectations.
