Unlock Split Screen Multitasking on Any iPhone

Unlock Split Screen Multitasking on Any iPhone

iOS 9 prompted Apple to utilize additional screen space on the iPad, introducing two features: Split Screen Multitasking and Slide Over. Split Screen Multitasking enables simultaneous use of two apps side by side, while Slide Over facilitates interaction with another app via a screen swipe gesture without exiting the current app. Although initially exclusive to certain iPad models, iPhone users were left out. Here’s how to enable Split Screen Multitasking on your iPhone:

Note: This process requires a Jailbroken iPhone. If you haven’t done so already, refer to our guide on Jailbreaking iOS 10.2.

Install Gorgone from Cydia

  • Open Cydia on your iPhone and search for “Gorgone” in the Search tab. Since this tweak is hosted on BigBoss repo and added by default in Cydia, you don’t need to add any other custom Source.
  • Tap on “Restart SpringBoard” to complete the installation process.

Your device will restart shortly, and Gorgone should now be successfully installed.

Next, configure Gorgone’s settings. Go to “Settings” > “Gorgone” and toggle on “Enable Rotation“. This enables rotations in most apps and on the home screen.

The option “Enable Lock Screen rotation” is only compatible with iOS 9 and is currently not functional on iOS 10.

Efficient Use of Split Screen Multitasking on iPhone

Within any app, swipe left from the middle-right edge of your screen to access all installed applications on your iPhone.

Tap on any app to slide it over and give it focus, mirroring the functionality of the iPad’s Slide Over feature. This enables you to interact with another app while staying within the current one. Simply swipe back to switch to the previous app once you’re finished.

This feature proves invaluable, especially when you find yourself needing to quickly search the web while using another app. With this capability, you can perform a web search using Safari (or any other iPhone web browser) without exiting your current app, seamlessly returning with a swift swipe.

To access Split screen mode, rotate your iPhone to enter landscape mode. Inside any app, swipe left from the middle-right edge of the screen to enter Slide Over mode. Pick the app you want from the list. Tapping on the small drag bar will put the apps side-by-side, allowing simultaneous use.

Swiping down from the top white drag bar will bring back the list of installed apps.

To exit Split screen mode, slide away the app using the drag bar in the middle of both the apps.

No bugs encountered on my Jailbroken iPhone 6 with Gorgone. The only issue: it enables rotation across all installed apps. While a boon for some, it makes some apps look terrible. Hopefully, future releases will offer an option to disable rotation for specific apps. Other than this, Gorgone is rock solid.

To temporarily disable Gorgone, tap “Disable,” or uninstall it from Cydia if no longer needed.
