Despite multiple delays prompted by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, Cyberpunk 2077, one of the year’s most anticipated games, is set to launch on November 19. Ahead of its release, developer CD Projekt Red has been running an informative promotional video campaign on YouTube. In a recent episode of the Cyberpunk 2077 series, “Night City Wire,” a game developer discussed the game’s diverse “lifepaths,” emphasizing their pivotal role in initiating and shaping the narrative. Here’s an overview of Cyberpunk 2077’s “Lifepaths.”
At the game’s start, you choose a Lifepath, shaping your character’s narrative and decisions. Each Lifepath—Nomad, Street Kid, or Corpo—alters the character within the shared setting of Night City.
Street Kid
If you choose “Street Kid”, your character will hail from the raw streets of Night City, particularly the Heywood area, where life often proved challenging. Much of your childhood was spent amidst gangs and the mafia, constantly evading law enforcement.
As a result, your character embodies street life. This familiarity enables you to forge strong bonds with the city’s low-life population.
Nomad
As a “Nomad”, your childhood is predominantly spent on the outskirts of Night City, known as the “Badlands”. This locale received mention earlier in the year when developers introduced a “Madmax-themed” car for the game. These expansive deserts are governed by Nomad clans and have witnessed numerous wars and other adversities over time.
As you commence the game, your objective is to forge a new life in Night City after departing from your Nomad clan, for various reasons.
In this scenario, your character is unfamiliar with the city, making it challenging to establish strong connections with the locals, unlike the “Street Kid”.
Corpo
As a “Corpo,” you won’t traverse the low-life streets of Night City or the dangerous “Badlands.” Instead, you’ll embody a top-level executive at the Arasaka Corporation, affording you leverage in dealings with business mafias and corporate peers.
These “Lifepaths” extend beyond the game’s outset. Eventually, these characters may intersect during shared missions.
Philip Weber, the game’s Quest Design Coordinator, emphasized in a recent interview that to make Cyberpunk 2077 “a real RPG”, developers incorporated specific “lifepath opportunities” for different “lifepaths”. Consequently, each character will encounter unique advantages or disadvantages during missions based on their “lifepath”.
This summarizes the essence of the “Lifepaths” in Cyberpunk 2077. Watch the entire 26-minute episode of “Night City Wire” below.
